The Importance of Self-Care

< Back to the article list

Sometimes, when life gets busy, self-care takes the back burner. Here’s why you should make it a priority this year.

Self-care is an important part of our physical and mental well-being, but it can be easy to neglect. When you practice self-care regularly, your confidence naturally grows. Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated; you just have to stick with it. Once the actions become part of your regular routine, they’ll be healthy habits for life. Here are a few easy things to try to get started.

Self-Care Practices to Try

1. Brush your teeth

Practice good oral hygiene and remember to brush your teeth, for two minutes, twice a day. Save your pearly whites from acid that can cause tooth decay by using a toothpaste like Pronamel that can protect the enamel of your teeth.

2. Wash your face

Just like your teeth, you should wash your face twice a day – once in the morning and once at night. Throughout the day, excess oils, dirt, and other debris build up on your skin that clog your pores and can cause impurities. Use your favorite face scrub to keep your skin squeaky clean.

3. Have your hair trimmed

Although it seems counterintuitive, you should trim your hair every six to 12 weeks to keep your locks healthy. Your hair goes through a lot on a daily basis – you put it up, you take it down, you curl it, you straighten it. This can cause breakage and damage, so it’s important to keep those ends trimmed.

4. Get enough sleep

Sleep is imperative to your health, and according to The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, adults should be getting seven or more hours of sleep a night. When you sleep, your body gets a chance to recharge from the day, and you are literally sleeping your stress away — so make sure you unplug and unwind every night.

5. Regularly exercise

To maintain an active lifestyle, be sure to keep moving throughout the day. You don’t have to go through a rigorous gym workout to get the job done. Just getting in your 10,000 steps can make a positive impact on your health.

6. Manage stress

We all get stressed sometimes, but multiple daily challenges can have a lot of negative impacts on your health. According to the Mayo Clinic, chronic stress over time can lead to serious health problems. Keep your stress in check by taking time to yourself to unwind from the day by meditating or relaxing at least once a day.

7. Show gratitude

At least once a day, think of something you’re grateful for, either when you get up in the morning or before you go to sleep. Practicing mindfulness can improve your overall attitude and create a positive outlook on life.
